NEC unveils concept handsets
NEC has just paraded a fair number of concept cellphones to the masses in Japan, and they all look very interesting! The entire range comes in a variety of kooky and weird colors, not to mention various shapes and sizes as well. Even the material used for each handset is different. No idea which one will make the cut before reaching the consumers, but it sure is an exciting future judging by what's on display! NEC N904i preview
Here's a sneak peek of the NEC N904i cellphone which will probably be announced on an official basis a week later. This handset is currently on show in Milan and has been designed by Stefano Giovannoni. What can you expect in the final product? For starters, an extremely large 2.7" WVGA+ TFT display that blows the rest of the competition out of the water. As for the final details, let's just wait until NEC releases its dossier later next week.
NEC N903i boasts GPS connectivity
At first cellphones incorporated a puny VGA camera that has evolved into 3 megapixel wonders of today, followed by the inclusion of DMB capability as well as video and audio playback. Looks like conquering the GPS market is high on the agenda with the new NEC N903i cellphone that features a generous 2.5" TFT LCD display, GPS capability, and a microSD memory card slot. The LCD display is capable of offering a 480 x 690 pixel resolution which should be sufficient for you to find your way around via the on-screen map. There is no word on pricing details, but the N903i is widely tipped to be available soon.
NEC introduces concept Tag phone
Everybody loves concepts as it is a welcome break from the daily mundaneness of life. NEC engineers must have been smoking some high quality stuff to develop this concept of a slick Tag cellphone that is constructed from some form of rubbery material that is capable of remembering its previous shapes. At your command (we're not sure if it is done verbally or telephatically), the tag will bend and twist accordingly. Should this concept ever materialize and be mass marketed, chances are it will sell like hot cakes especially among those who keep on forgetting their cellphones.
Here's another cellphone that looks too fragile to be used. The NEC N908 shares the same dimensions as a credit card, and its thickness of 12.8mm makes it a prime candidate for replacements after sitting on it accidentally for the 35th time. In order to achieve such a size, the keypad had to be eliminated, leaving only a touchscreen as the input method of choice. Other features include MP3/AAC/AAC+/3GP/MPEG4 playback, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot, a 1.3 megapixel camera, dual stereo speakers, and intuitive quick access buttons for the camera, volume, power, and keyloack. The N908 will see the light of day in Asia when Q3 2006 rolls around.
